The last few weeks have been a blur and I’ve been pushing off writing a post. A couple of weeks ago I saw my favorite band for the 3rd time in 3 years, and then I started listening to Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins on Audible. Listening to that book really gave me a perspective while reading Michelle Obama’s biography. It was almost a disservice, Becoming was a good book, learning a lot about the Robinson’s was interesting, but listening to Michelle Obama discuss slights lost impact next to David Goggins. David Goggins is a former Navy Seal who also attended Ranger school, is an ultra marathon runner, and even a wildfire fighter. His dad beat him, his mother ran away with him, and listening to the man talk about what he went through was extremely motivating. I picked up running, outside with my dog, last week was the first time with my dog and I pulled out 13 miles, and my dog has loved every pit of pounding pavement. It was motivating listening to Goggins talk about coming face to face with fears and doubt.

Both stories gave me a new perspective, that’s really the great thing about books. You can see the world from the eyes of someone else and that changes a person, seeing the world through someone else’s eyes, seeing the negative. Which is one of the reasons I quit Facebook recently, I deleted it entirely for many reasons, but none moreso than it distorting me into believing that everything is great. It isn’t. There are things that I need to turn around and face and the sooner I embrace that, the sooner I learn truths about the world over truths about someone dinner, the better. Hopefully I’ll still keep venting here, I might even take my blog as an excuse to do the challenges from David Goggins book, but until then, enjoy the picture of my dog Syl as she begs me for more runs.
